Van Life

I’ve always dreamed of van life. In my imagination it meant freedom, open roads, coffee with ocean views, and the kind of closeness to nature that makes your soul remember who it is.

Caleb’s version was…different. To him it sounded like being trapped in a metal box, sweating, wondering what was about to break next.

As it turns out, we’re both right.

We’re doing weekend van life now. It’s less magical than I imagined and far more ordinary. There are cramped spaces, a hundred little frustrations, and a surprising number of things to figure out.

But it’s also more enjoyable than Caleb expected.

So we’re learning. Laughing. Adjusting our expectations. Getting a little better each trip. Maybe that’s the real adventure—not becoming the people who effortlessly live the dream, but becoming the kind of people who can find joy in the imperfect version of it.
